Welcome to the website of the campaign to save Purley Pool from Closure
The regular swimmers using Purley Pool are annoyed that decisions to close the pool were taken without any discussion with those that use the pool. The users are a complete cross section of the public plus 11 schools. The pool is well used and we think it makes a profit.
The Council intend to knock down the pool and car park and build flats and some other facilities but they will not build another swimming pool. So Purley will lose a valuable facility that so many people have used to teach their children to swim and young and old are still using the pool on a regular basis.
The swimmers decided that they were not going to accept the decision taken by local councillors without having a chance to give their views.
The council has not come up with concrete facts as to why they want to close the pool.
If they close the pool where will all the public have to go? The only public pools left open in Croydon will be Thorton Heath and South Norwood, all in the North of the borough.
The Council are talking about building elsewhere but with pools costing £8-10 Million to build we all know what can happen when the money is wanted.
The swimmers believe that it is better to keep Purley Pool open and spend some money to maintain the facilities.
Sign our petition today to keep the pool open!
